MTV VMAS, Rihanna's new Sales update and more
This blog is called Adele, but doesnt mean she is the only superstar slaying at the moment. Rihanna has finally gained sale confirmation of her eighth studio album, Anti released January this year. It has spawned two big hits which have both sold well and both reached top ten on the Hot 100, and was certifed 2x platinum days after its release(with only 500,000 copies sold in the US though). Its current pure worldwide sales stand a little over 1.2 million so far.
The VMAS are next Sunday and the nominees are the most intresting since 2014(truly all award ceremonies held in 2015 beside the AMAs were boring). Rihanna is due to become 5th female to recieve the Video Vanguard Award and the 31st overall artist to do so. She is the third youngest recipient. Personally, i think Lady Gaga was way more deserving this year, she has more adventerous videos and has won 13 VMAs , the third most in history. Or maybe Missy Elliot or Pink. But on the rate the VMAs are going, i wont be surprised if the next Vanguard is Ariana Grande. She just isnt the most deserving at the moment.
Speaking about Gaga, the superstar has announced a new single called "Perfect Illusion'' which is due next September. I am happy for her, but I fear its going to spend its run just like Katy Perry's Rise is currently going through. It will debut in the top 15 due to first week hype, than tumble down the charts in the following weeks. The only way the single will remain in the top twenty and suffer a great fall is if she does constant promoting and if it gains airplay acceptance. No shade but shade. She also promises a new album which is due to drop in the later parts of this year or early 2017. I think it could drop late November like Adele's 25 and pick up in sales by Christmas week. So far it doesnt have much competition for top slots , as long as Anti and 25 remain in the lower ends of the top ten the remainder of the year(*which they will).
As for the lower half of this year(Sept.-Dec.) the only albums that i see dominating are Gaga's and Frank Ocean's Blonde which is suspected to debut at number one next week with over 250,000 units first week. As i said before, it will probably spend 15-20 weeks in the top ten at the most then start fall down in positions like crazy.
Well, thats pretty much all for now and i will post more news later. Your lovely news reporter, The Music Teacher.
